Chancee's dilemma

The other night, after all the dishes were done and dinner was cleaned up from, I sat down on the couch to work on my cross stitch. No, I don't have a lot of time to cross stitch, but I have done one for each of my children with their name birth date and birth weight on it. So there I sat with my pattern book in my lap as I worked on the bunny I'm doing for the baby. As I sat there Chance came up to me and started looking at the patterns which were on the page that I had open. He told me the names of each of the animals on the page as I worked. Then he got quiet as he just sat there for a few minutes just looking at the pictures. All of the sudden. He looked at me and said "Mom, What happened?"

"What do you mean?" I asked him

Again "Mom, What happened?'

"I don't know what happened" I curiously replied.

"Well" says Chance "Let's turn the page and find out!"

It seriously amazes me how smart kids are and the things they learn by the time they are two years old. Who'd a thunk that a two year old would understand the whole concept of a book. and that by the end of the book the "what happened" part of the book would be solved. I'd like to say it's because I read to him all the time. But I don't. At least not any more than I read to the rest of my kids.

So, anyway, the experiences such as these and Aubree's story (see below) Make raising Children well worth it. At least that's how I feel.

Aubree's story

I salvaged this mirror off of an old headboard and told Aubree we'd put it in her room. She was very excited about having a "magic mirror" in her bedroom. So while I painted it white to match her bedroom. She told me a story about her magic mirror. It went something like this.

Once there was a girl who lived with her Mom. She had to go to the lagoon one day to get something from the water. Now to get to the lagoon she had to travel through the woods that were by her house and on her way home she became lost in the woods. She was really scared and she even had to sleep in the woods. But after a long time she found a mirror hanging on a tree. She new immediately that it was the magic mirror that had been lost from her village and so she took it down and asked it to help her find her way home. The magic mirror showed her how to get home and when she went into her village which was called Ampre....um Aspet....no Acne yeah that's it Acne. Then all the people in the village began calling her the princess of Acne. and she lived happily ever after.

Now, I ask you. as a mother. How am I supposed to keep a straight face, sigh and tell her how lovely her story is?

Well, I couldn't so I had to explain to a five year old princess why I was laughing at her story instead of sighing dreamily (as she was). She actually took it really well and laughed at herself as she spent another five to ten minutes trying to come up with a more suitable name for the village in her story. I'm sure she came up with a much better name But.....alas I can not remember (for the life of me) what it was. and shall never forget the story of the princess of Acne.

K, here they are my new little additions to the "homestead" This is for all you city dwellers who really really wish you could raise chickens and such. Yes there are only eight of them. But, there have been years where I had 25-30 Chicks and then ended up with so many eggs that I actually contemplated buying a new refrigerator just to put my eggs in. I think eight eggs a day is plenty That is if all these cute little chicks are female. They are supposed to be, but you never know.

I figured that I could put up with these little ones if there ever is a shortage on eggs. or say the prices go up to oh, I don't know, $5.00 a dozen or worse just because of the price of corn. Are any of the rest of you out there getting a little concerned about the shortage of wheat and other grains or am I just slightly paranoid. (which is entirely possible) of course, you have to remember I happen to be pretty close to it. WE RAISE COWS. All the prices are affected by whats happening don't be surprised when beef prices sky rocket, too.

Great Easter and new Project

So I've sat here for two hours trying to down load some videos of Easter and my baby Chicks nothing seems to be working right. Sigh.....I'll try a couple pictures

This picture is this years Easter hill. the nice things about these hills is after you've softened up the dirt they're fun to slide down which is what the kids spent most of their time doing It was a lot of fun. and as early as Easter was it was still pleasantly warm.

Just for Jenny

O.K. I know how bad you want to comment on my extremely clever and enjoyable blogs so I went in and changed who could make comments. So now anyone can comment You'll have to try it to see if it actually worked. and by the way here is the picture of my finished string eggs that you wanted to see.
I have no idea why it copied my sentence twice and printed them too. I've tried to erase them but I couldn't so just disregard everything below. Thanks.

Easter is Coming

Aubree was insisting that this year she needs a new Easter basket.

"I can't find my old one!!!!" She whines and whines and whines.

"O.K.! O.K.!! O.K.!!!! Fine, we'll look for one when I go Easter shopping" I tell her Which gives me ten minutes of peaceful silence as she plays for a few minutes and then starts in again.

"Mom I think I want a pink one but purples would be O.K. I guess but I really want pink because pink is my favorite. I really really need one mom, can't we just go get one at the store here? Please mom I don't think I can wait that long. Besides my one from last year is lost and I don't know where it is."

Sigh!!! now just hit replay over and over and you'll understand why I finally ran to the store yesterday and bought some balloons ($2.00), kite string($.99), and some Elmer's glue($.20 I bought it at the back to school sales last fall.) and came home and spent the next 2 hours with watered down glue dripping from my hands as I wrapped the soaked kite string around the balloons. Oh sure Aubree helped for about the usual 10 minutes But Braden and Caib both decided that they wanted one as well so for two more hours today With a little more help from the boys (but not much) I did two more only this time we put a drop or two of food coloring in the glue. One was yellow one was green. So you can imagine the color my fingers now are.

Now don't sit there shaking your heads at my stupidity. I know perfectly well that I can go out and buy three nice little plastic Easter baskets for less then $3.19 but I was whined into it. Give me a break. Besides now I can claim that I'm a great mom. and that's probably worth at least $3.19.

By the way for all of you out there wondering if I'm showing yet. There you go. I feel like an Elephant. in fact I measured large at my last check up and as much as this baby moves I've decided I'm going to talk myself into thinking that I'm having twins so that when I do have just one baby it'll feel like a piece of cake.

Oh and guess what. Yesterday I went to a yard sale. It was one that was being held to benefit a family in our community that just found out that there little 2 year old daughter has a cancerous tumour in her stomach the size of her fathers fist.(sad) and I bid on a 12 foot aluminum row boat.

Yeah!!! I won the bid. of course it doesn't have any oars to go with it but I figured I could find some pretty easily. Roger just shook his head and said you should of just given them the money. He doesn't love the water as much as I do. You should have seen how anxious Braden and Caib were. they kept running down the block to the yard sale to make sure no one out bid me. Boy were they excited. It was fun!!!

A cowboy’s a cowboy.

Saddle sores and whooping.
Pushing cows around.
Combing half the country side
‘till all the strays are found.

Broken Reins and cinch straps,
Bailing twine and wire.
Mending in the evenings
‘round a warm camp fire.

Hobbling the horses
So they don’t stray at night.
Going to bed early,
Then rising at first light.

Back into the saddle
In the cool of the morn.
Dirty shirts and wranglers
Sweaty and reworn

The sun is getting hotter
There’s dust and sweat and flies
These are things a cowboy
Deals with till he dies.

I guess since I’m a cowboy
Dealing just makes sense
Cause I’d hate to think I 's straddling
An old rusty barbed wire fence.

I figured since I'm bored I'd try to upload a video. I guess we'll see if I've done it right. And, hopefully, if you're bored It'll give you something to do for a minute anyway.

So for all you people out there who are easily affected by the confining power of the city you live in, with its congestion of people, diseases and pavement. Here's to you!!!!

Enjoy!!

Things are Fine

Every thing is going extremely well!!!
I really have nothing clever or exciting to blog on I'm just trying to kill a little time before I run down to the crossing guard this afternoon. Maybe I'll take the camera and get a few action shots. Won't that be exciting? In fact that is just what I'll do. Then when I get back I'll actually have something to show. Ha Ha HA!!!!
